The overall design of the chair allows aisles and walkways that comply with BS 9999. In existing buildings where the row spacing may be particularly narrow, the Model F6000 chair can be up-righted to provide the required walkway. The seat centres can be varied to suit the seat layout as required.

The chair can be riser or tread fixed. Portable chairs can also be provided to allow wheelchair access.

Planning

Summary

The Model LT2 lecture theatre seat has been installed in numerous educational establishments throughout the UK.

The seat can be tailored to suit individual design requirements, both in terms of dimensions and finished. The underside of the seat can be either upholstered, exposed painted, polished or veneered plywood panel. The same detail can also be reflected on the outside of the seat back.

A number of alternative types of writing ledge construction are also available, including laminated, veneered, marmoleum and solid timber.

All seats are upholstered with fire retardant fabrics from a wide range of cloths from various manufacturers.

Fixed Tier Structures

Summary

Specialists in Seating can design, manufacture and install fixed tiered floors to suit any room size that is available.

Modular construction permits ease of installation on site. This feature, when complemented with our in-house carpeting and seating installation operation, allows a typical classroom to be converted into a tiered lecture theatre, within a matter of a few days.

Converting a space into a tiered lecture theatre improves the overall appearance, increases capacity and improves the sight lines for the students.

The fixed tiered structures can be manufactured to any riser and tread dimensions that may be specified and they can also be constructed in a straight or curved configuration.

The structural design of the tiered floors conforms to the following requirements:-

BS 6399: Part 1; 1996 "Loading for Buildings"
BS 449: "The use of structural steel in building"

Job specific structural calculations can be provided should these be required.

Sports Hall

Summary

Specialists in Seating have provided and installed sports seating to many sports facilities in the UK including the De Montfort University QEII sports hall in Leicester, which seats in excess of 800 people.

The seating systems are bespoke to each requirement and exceptionally durable being provided with moulded plastic bench seating, easily cleaned decks.

The systems can be one man operation by means of power operation and self storing handrails.

Options available included plastic folding backrest for enhanced comfort and dedicated wheelchair spaces within the seating system.

What is BIM?

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is the digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a building. BIM allows enhanced collaboration of a projects design team and delivers efficiencies, contributing to the overall success of a project.

This takes the form of a 3D model containing "families" that represent physical items; from a window or door through to all types of complex products. The project file acts as a shared source of building information data, used from project initiation all the way through to a facilities life-cycle management.

Prior to construction, architects, engineers and contractors can use these 3D models to evaluate, schedule and quantify entire projects.

As a result, they can identify and resolve problems early in the design phase, when decisions can have the greatest impact on cost, schedule, and sustainability.

Our seating systems are designed, manufactured and installed with attention to detail and commitment to providing the best service possible.

The Model F6000 Chair

The Model F6000 theatre seat offers clients an auditorium chair that can be tailored to their own specific design requirements.
A brief summary of options is detailed as follows:

Seat Base

The standard fully upholstered seat base can have an exposed polished or painted plywood panel on the underside of the seat base for added durability.

Seat Back

The standard fully upholstered seat back, with lumbar support, can have an exposed polished or painted plywood panel on the outside of the seat back.

This protective panel can be extended above the upholstery by 20mm to protect the top edge at the upholstered back. For further added protection to the upholstery, a timber capping section can be added to the protective plywood back panel.

The protective panels are highly recommended in areas such as balconies, where the possibility of people sat in the rows behind may put their feet on the top of the seat backs.

Armrests

The Model F6000 seat may be provided with or without armrests. Should armrests be required, these can either be solid beech timber, polished or painted finish, or upholstered in the selected fabric.

Fabrics

A wide range of seat covering fabrics are available, including tweeds, vinyl, velour and leather. All fabrics and seat foams meet the appropriate Fire Regulations.

Accessories

These are available for the Model F6000 seat. Accessories include upholstered end panels, seat numbers and row letters.

Model LT2

The writing ledge width varies depending on the tread spacing and rise per row of the lecture theatre. Contact design office for details.

The seat centres of the Model LT2 chair can be varied to suit site dimensions, without cost implications. Chairs can be spaced at a minimum of 450 mm centres up to 610 mm centres.

A typical seat centre in a lecture theatre would be 500 mm.

Model LT6

The Model LT6 lecture theatre seat can be installed in locations where a higher degree of comfort is required.

The seat has a deeper seat base and lumbar support in the backrest, along with the design options of the Model LT2 lecture theatre seat.

1. 40x40x3mm RHS fully welded support frames spaced at suitable centres as per the project layout. Frames bolted together and fixed to floor with suitable fixing bolts/screws appropriate for floor construction.

2. 40x40x3mm RSA link sections between each main support frame.

3. 25mm thick far eastern plywood to all treads and risers. Plywood fixed by use of Hilti wing tip countersunk screws.

Specification for Fixed Tiering

Design Criteria

Vertical deck loading -

  • Satisfies the requirement of 4.0KN/m² uniformly distributed load, live loading as stated in BS6399.
  • Loading capacity 5.0KN/m² in the aisle positions.

Horizontal loading -

  • Satisfies the requirement of 0.6KN/m² uniformly distributed load [15% of the vertical loading] as stated in BS6399.
Construction

40 x 40 x 3.2 mm RHS section fully welded into supporting frames complete with baseplates 125 x 125 x 6.0 mm.

Supporting frames spaced at a maximum of 1200mm centres and linked laterally below deck level with 2N° sections of 40 x 40 x 4 mm RHS. Support frames provided with diagonal bracing as required by structural calculations.

Decking

All treads and risers finished with 25mm thick plywood securely fixed to supporting framework with TEK screws applied in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Design Features

Each support column is formed from two steel sections for added strength and stability.

Lower guide tracks fully interlock to adjacent tracks to prevent drifting and keep alignment.

Fully adjustable tiers/rows to ease operation and enhance long term maintenance.

Each moving row is fitted with a steel fabricated parallel guidance system to ease operation and prevent jamming.

One man power operation of the seating system if required.

Tiers/rows are fitted with a load transfer skid, which is cushioned, so that when the seating units are in the open position a 'solid' contact is provided between each row - this eliminates 'banging' and clattering' between tiers/rows when seating is partially loaded with people.

Chairs with optional armrests.

Matching fixed and portable chairs available.

10 year guarantee on support structure.

Installation of a 310 seat electrically operated retractable platform and chair system.

Stowe School - in conjunction with ASG Stage Products

Overview - The Roxburgh Hall at Stowe School was named after the school's first Headmaster, J.F.Roxburgh in May 1923. The hall is famous as the Beatles played there in April 1962.

Extensive refurbishment was carried out in the summer of 2012 with a new fixed tiered structure being constructed, which provides storage underneath for portable chairs underneath, which links the ground floor to the first floor. A total of 323 were installed.
